Our History
Founded in 1919 by its members, Lenawee Country Club began with a vision from Mr. Ernest Way, who designed the original 18-hole layout. However, only nine holes were initially built, and members contributed their time to help maintain the course before they could play. The remaining nine holes were completed in 1926, allowing the full 18-hole course to open on Memorial Day in 1927.
The club navigated through the hardships of the Great Depression and the financial challenges of World War II. In 1949, the original farmhouse clubhouse was replaced with the current facility, marking a new chapter in the club’s growth. In 1950, Lenawee Country Club proudly hosted the Michigan Open, where Walter Burkemo claimed victory, solidifying the club’s place in Michigan golf history.
In 2019, the club underwent a significant transformation, changing ownership and being renamed Hills of Lenawee Golf Club. Today, our 129 acres of gently rolling terrain offer a par 72 course with tree-lined fairways and undulating greens that challenge golfers of all skill levels. We take great pride in maintaining the highest standards, ensuring pristine fairways and fast, true greens in tournament conditions every day.
